Parisian gangsters Clavet, Moreau, Valoti, Paoli, and Jabeke agree to share the purchase of a large shipment of narcotics. Moreau is chosen to make the purchase, but Jabeke plans an elaborate doublecross by providing himself with an alibi and then slipping aboard the train carrying Moreau to Marseilles. Entering Moreau's sleeping compartment in disguise, Jabeke accidentally awakens Moreau and kills him in the ensuing struggle. Back in Paris, Paoli confronts Jabeke with a newspaper account of Moreau's death; Jabeke mistakenly reveals his guilt and stabs Paoli to ensure his silence. Clavet and Valoti find Paoli's corpse, but the evidence seems to point to Valoti as the doublecrosser. Jabeke kills Clavet since further examination of the evidence would reveal his own guilt. Valoti searches Jabeke's apartment and finds the money, but Jabeke surprises him and kills him. Seemingly free now, Jabeke is about to enter his car when Clavet's widow shoots him. Symphony for a Massacre is a hard-boiled French/Italian crime thriller.
